Budget 2027: AI and tech incentives
Budget 2027, tabled on 9 October 2026, includes several measures for AI, software and digital businesses:
- ICT capital allowance: the Accelerated Capital Allowance for plant and machinery and for ICT equipment and software is extended to 31 December 2030.
- SME income tax: cut by one percentage point, to 14% on the first RM150,000 and 16% on the next RM150,000 to RM600,000 of chargeable income.
- AI adoption: a RM30 million MDEC fund to help 4,000 SMEs adopt AI and automate operations, and to train and certify 5,000 AI professionals.
- Startups: RM450 million from Jelawang Capital and KWAP's Dana Perintis, plus RM41 million to Cradle Fund for prototype and commercialisation grants.
- Startup investors: the income tax exemption for ECF and catalyst investors in early-stage tech startups is extended to 31 December 2030.
- Financing: total loan and guarantee facilities rise from RM50 billion to RM57 billion in 2027.
- Sovereign AI Cloud: planned, so that citizens' data and strategic national information stay under Malaysian control.
